Women’s Report: Team Birmingham Elite 69-83 Bristol Flyers

Bristol Flyers women returned to winning ways with a convincing road victory against Team Birmingham Elite.

Flo Ward led the way with a game-high 24 points, whilst Mai Zilbeti and Christina Bigica added 15 points apiece.


WHAT HAPPENED

After a messy start, Flyers were the first ones on the board with a fast break lay up coming from Hannah Wallace. Buxton hit back with a jumper for Birmingham but Ward responses with a three for her own. Both teams went toe to toe for several possessions, but the Flyers began to pull away with points from Zilbeti, Fox and Cantin. Birmingham were able to claw their way back to finish the quarter down by three. 20-23.

Ward converted a three-point-play, which was shortly followed with another one from Zilbeti. Cantin, Wallace and Ward all scored mid range jump shots to keep the Flyers ahead by nine points going into half-time. 33-42.

Birmingham came out fighting in the second half with six quick points, but Zilbeti and Ward response with points on the board to keep Bristol ahead. The quarter came to and end with Birmingham's coach getting a technical foul to put Cantin at the line for two free throws. 48-62.

The final quarter saw Flyers keep their composure and extend their lead. Brindley managed to get to the line for three free throws after being fouled behind  the three point line, scoring all three for Birmingham. Ward added to her points with another three-pointer from well behind the line, very quickly followed by another three points to close out the game. 68-83.
