Vigor Completes Flyers Switch

Bristol Flyers have completed the signing of Australian forward Michael Vigor.

The 25-year-old becomes coach Andreas Kapoulas’ first recruit for the 2016/17 season.

Born in Aberdeen, Vigor made 32 appearances for the Plymouth Raiders last year, averaging 11.5 points per game on 33% shooting from behind the three-point-line.

“I’m delighted to be joining Bristol Flyers for my second year in the league,” said Vigor.

“I played with Plymouth last year and with Bristol being our rivals it was always exciting to play against them.

“I heard a lot about Andreas being a great coach and I was very happy when my agent told me that Bristol were interested.

“I had a long chat with Coach Kapoulas where he told me his future plans for the club with me being a part of it and it really excited me.”

The 6ft 9in forward also has previous experience in Australia’s top flight with the Perth Wildcats and in the second tier (SEABL) with the Bendigo Braves.

Vigor, who holds both Australian and British nationality, is currently playing for the Perth Redbacks in Australia’s SBL this summer, and will link up with his new team-mates for pre-season, which begins at the end of August.

“Michael brings great versatility to our new-look roster,” said head coach Kapoulas.

“He had an impressive debut season in the league last year with the Raiders and he fits well in terms of the style of basketball I want us to play this season.

“He has high level experience in Australia and what really sets him apart is his ability to step outside and stretch the defence with his shooting.

“I look forward to welcoming him and the rest of the squad for pre-season.” 

Vigor becomes the fifth player to commit to Bristol Flyers for the 2016/17 season, alongside captain Greg Streete, Roy Owen, Jordan Ranklin and Chris Bourne.
