Video: Bristol Flyers Corporate Basketball Tournament

Businesses from across Bristol went head-to-head while also raising vital community funds at last week’s Bristol Flyers Corporate Basketball tournament held at SGS College Arena.

The inaugural event, which saw Flyers players take on coaching roles with each of the teams, raised money for the charity’s community programmes and was followed by a networking session.

Hargreaves Lansdown were crowned winners at the end of a highly enjoyable afternoon, with Santander UK, KPMG UK, Lancer Scott Ltd, Hydrock, Blu Wireless, Smith & Williamson and EY also entering teams into the tournament.

Ben Breeze, chief community officer, said: “Today is about fun more than anything. It’s our corporate partners who understand the importance of community, it’s a fundraiser for our new basketball outreach programme, supporting some of the most disaffected young people in Bristol.

“But for the corporates, it’s a day out, it’s a bit of health and wellbeing, it’s teambuilding and it’s a load of fun. It’s great to see so many big corporates from Bristol joining us here for our first event.”

Flyers community manager, Claire Buckingham, added: “For companies to have the opportunity to be coaches and have some fun alongside professional sports people and see what they do, is great.

“What I’m really loving is how involved they (Flyers players) are getting in the whole thing as well.

“They are really supporting their teams, they’re coaching and they’re really getting involved, and it puts the icing on the cake of a great day.”
