Vacancy: Bristol Flyers Community Basketball Coach

The Bristol Sport Foundation is looking for two exceptional candidates to join their ever-growing team of expert basketball coaches.

The Bristol Flyers Community team aim to inspire children and young people in Greater Bristol and Bath and North East Somerset to fall in love with basketball and to lead ‘Active. Healthy, Happy’ lives. As a Bristol Flyers Community basketball coach, you will need to deliver safe, fun, and engaging sessions, to help enthuse, educate, and motivate your audience. We are specifically looking for people who are passionate about basketball and the opportunity to make a positive difference to the lives of children and young people.

Working alongside our partner schools, you will play a vital role in helping children to fall in love with basketball and to enjoy being active. The role will also involve upskilling primary school teaching staff, aiding them in becoming more confident in their abilities to deliver high quality basketball for their curriculum PE, leaving a legacy in schools. Our Bristol Flyers Community provision includes evening and weekend basketball hubs as well as holiday camps for children aged 3 to 16. We also deliver a Player Development Pathway hub for identified young people looking to progress into the Flyers Academy and are in the process of planning the implementation of a central venue league.

Our Bristol Flyers Community basketball coaches also have a unique opportunity to support the Bristol Flyers gameday experience at SGS College Arena.


What we expect from you and your responsibilities:

  • Hold at least a Level 1 UKCC Basketball coaching qualification or qualified teacher status (QTS).
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience of coaching children.
  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • A full, valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • A passion for inspiring children to fall in love with basketball, sport and enjoy being active.
  • The ability to deliver age appropriate, fun and safe basketball sessions of the highest quality.
  • To inspire others, children, school staff and colleagues with your energy, positivity, specialist subject knowledge, and desire to be the best you can possibly be.
  • To always uphold professional standards and a can-do attitude.
  • A growth mindset to challenge and develop yourself, with an openness to learn from others.
  • Possess a strong work ethic; consistent hard work and impact will be recognised.
  • To continually monitor and evaluate all sessions and relationships with the aim of improving the quality, impact, and reputation of our programmes.
  • To communicate regularly and effectively with schools, co-coaches, your line manager, the operations team, and the head of programmes.
  • Establish positive working relationships with staff in schools, day in, day out.
  • Perform your role with a smile on your face.

Working hours:

37.5 per week. Weekdays from 9am – 4:30pm, with an unpaid 30-minute lunchbreak and two evenings per week (approximately 6pm–8pm) and Saturday (9am–2pm). Time off in the week is given for the evening and weekend hours.

Salary:

From £19,000 – £23,000 dependent on level of qualifications, experience, and the strength of the application.
