U14’s I Finish Their Hoop Dreams Tournament On A High As Runners Up

On Sunday 18th September, Flyers U14’s I headed off to Surrey to take part in the Hoop Dreams pre-season tournament.

The team selected for this tournament was Joseph Britton, Alex Carey, Joe Matthews, Alex Millman, James Panso, Ewan Strover, Reece Strover, Nathan Symons, Louie Tucker, Louie West and Finley Woodward.

The first game was against the Surrey Rams II with the first half starting well. Flyers fast ball movement and good reading of the defence lead to plenty of opportunities for the Flyers to score. However, lack of communication on defence caused unforced errors. The second half was also strong, with the plays working well and good shot selection. Flyers closed out the game with a 37 – 17 win.

The second game was against Sevenoaks and using the momentum from the first game, Flyers started even stronger. With quick ball movement and good use of screens Flyers ended the first half well. In the second half Flyers at times lacked boxing out and Sevenoaks found some easy rebounds. Flyers continued to play well as a team, finishing the game with a final score of  35 – 6 win to Flyers.

The final game was against London Thunder, who were eager to continue their winning streak. The first half was evenly matched, Flyers used their plays well to create spacing for good shots and finished the half in front. In the second half Flyers continued to work hard and created good opportunities however London Thunder were a strong, determined team and Flyers were not able to hold on to their lead to get the final win.

Top scorers over the day were Ewan Strover 18, Finley Woodward 16 and Alex Millman 14.
