The importance of defence: Why 18iT decided to sponsor Bristol Flyers

Flyers fans may have noticed that throughout the club’s BBL journey, all of Coach Kapoulas’ teams have preached the importance of defence.

In a first for the club, the team’s playstyle and philosophy attracted a new commercial partner.

Inspired by what Director Paul Croker believed to be a shared ethos, 18iT were keen to partner with the Flyers and sponsor two players that they believed to embody this on the court: Teddy Okereafor and Panos Mayindombe.

Great Britain guard Okereafor has been a solid defensive presence for the Flyers at the guard position, averaging just under two steals a game and five defensive rebounds, including a seven-steal outing against London Lions.

Mayindombe, across his four-year tenure with the club, has become renowned for his intensity, passion and effort on the defensive end, making him a nightmare match-up for opposing guards.

How does this relate to IT? In the corporate world, today more than ever, businesses need to build a solid IT defence to protect client and company data and nullify cyber threats. 18iT provides this service, utilising their extensive industry experience to help businesses stay safe and secure.

Another parallel with basketball, is that the corporate IT world is incredibly fast-paced, so your best chance of defence is to be ready and in position before attacks are even launched.

Flyers will continue to highlight stand-out defensive performances throughout the ‘18iT Defensive Spotlight’ video series and if you would like to find out more about 18iT, their services and how they can help businesses, their information is below.
