We caught up with Bristol Flyers Head Coach Andreas Kapoulas to reflect on what has, so far, been a very successful season for him and his team….and it’s not over yet.
Saturday’s loss to Sharks ended Flyers best run of the season to date – a four game winning streak. Although Flyers are still in a great position to compete for a play-off spot in the team’s debut BBL season, this is not what pleases Coach K the most.
He said: “The thing I’m most happy with is our team chemistry. Our players are constantly stepping up to the challenges presented by the BBL environment and doing it the Bristol Flyers way.
“It is so rewarding to see the development of players such as captain Greg Streete, who has progressed through our junior club on to our academy pathway all the way to the top flight of British basketball.
“It is very inspiring and hopefully more young players in Bristol will be motivated to follow in his footsteps.”
The passion at WISE Arena has been evident since the first BBL game back in September, most of all from Andreas.
“I am definitely a very passionate and competitive person and the players appreciate this and know what to expect when they put on a Flyers vest,” he added.
“We take pride in what we do and we do everything for the team. We have high standards and I cannot cope with lack of effort, lack of concentration or selfish play.
“I believe in hard work and team effort and over the years all our teams have always played with high standards.”
There has certainly been no lack of hard work or effort from the Flyers this season as they currently sit in a play-off position with only seven games remaining.
The fans have pushed the team to a strong league position and your support is needed again as the team looks to get back to winning ways against third-placed Leicester Riders this Friday at the SGS WISE Arena.
“I must have said it so many times but the atmosphere at WISE is absolutely electric. It might not be the biggest venue in the country but it’s certainly the loudest and we appreciate how everyone in Bristol is right behind us.
“The BBL has brought top-level basketball to WISE and there is a clear appetite for the sport in the city of Bristol”
