Bristol Flyers Women completed the first half of the season with an away win against Surrey Goldhawks.
Bristol dominated the first half, with the main focus on executing offensively and restricting the home side to low percentage shots. Flyers winning the first half 15 to 42.
A spirited third quarter from the young Goldhawks, would see a much tighter game. Both teams scoring 13 points a piece. After some words of encouragement. The Flyers were able to find their rhythm once more. Innes Albuquerque heating up, with three 3’s in quick succession. Final score 36 to 73.
“Everyone played their part in the win. We’re really beginning to gel offensively and defensively. We had a good spread of points which is encouraging” Flyers Women Coach Till.
Fiona Fox led the scoring with a solid 15 points. However it was SGS student Chloe Hinett that had a standout performance for the Flyers, scoring a season high 10 points .
“It’s great to see Chloe enjoying her basketball. She’s started the last two games and you can see her confidence building. It’s very difficult making the transition from junior to senior basketball. The players & coaches are right behind her and we’re delighted she’s beginning to show her potential” said Coach Till.
At the halfway stage of the season. Flyers have a record of 5 wins and 3 losses. With all three losses on the road against the top placed teams. This sees the Women in fourth spot in the league.
“Our goal for the second half of the season is to build on our recent performances. We have the three top teams at home and we would like to avenge our losses. Our goal is still to make the play-offs which would be a fantastic achievement for a new team in the league.”
