Flyers U14 II finished 2015 on a high with victory in their final two games of the year in Gloucester.
Flyers’ first game of the day was against Cardiff U14s. The team selected for this fixture included Ben Bayley, Joseph Britton, Alex Carey, Alex Millman, James Panso, Harley Perrett, Noah Radley, Ewan Strover, Nathan Symons, Louie West and Finley Woodward.
The roster were anticipating a tough game against a strong Cardiff U14 side with the majority of their players in the higher age bracket.
The first quarter started off well with a two point lead to Flyers but some effective plays and rebounds saw a 25-19 half-time score in Cardiff’s favour.
At the start of the third, there was some strong defence from Flyers to stop Cardiff stretching their lead. Flyers forced turnovers reducing Cardiff’s lead to two at the end of the third.
The fourth quarter saw a determined effort by Flyers to regain the lead with Cardiff forced to call a time out. Flyers continued to apply defensive pressure leading to easy fast break scores, seeing Flyers run out 45-38 winners.
Top scorers were Ewan Strover (16) Finley Woodward (11) and Nathan Symons (6).
The U14s II second game was against home side Gloucester Blazers. Flyers started off strong, holding an eight point lead at the end of the first quarter. They stretched out the lead in the second quarter by 22 points handing them a comfortable advantage at half-time.
During the third and fourth quarters Coach Hill brought on players from the bench to gain some valuable game time, leading to the whole roster getting on the score sheet for the first time this season. Flyers finished the game with an impressive final score of 65-24.
