Flyers' U14s teams faced off in the first game of the second part of the U14 SW Regional league.
Before Christmas Flyers I and Flyers II qualified impressively from the South and North sections respectively, both having only lost one game. They were now both in Pot 1 and their first fixture was against each other.
The team was; Marvin Dinnall, Yusef Hafid, Nathan Herbert, Nassim Ladjimi, Leo Molyneux, Cody O’Callaghan, Dom Rahill, Henry Rawcliffe, Casey Smith.
Flyers I started superbly, racing into a 15-0 lead with Casey Smith sinking several baskets. Flyers II got onto the score sheet after 4 mins but Flyers I continued to take their opportunities and despite 2 great free-throws from Nathan Herbert for Flyers II, the score at the end of the first quarter 25-4 to Flyers I.
In the second quarter Flyers I continued at a high pace and made the most of the chances their build up play created. Flyers II had plenty of ball but could not create enough chances against the solid Flyers I defence. The half ended with Flyers I ahead 39-11.
The third quarter followed a similar pattern with Flyers I piling on the pressure and the points. More baskets from the on-fire Smith led to a third quarter score of 58-13.
Flyers II kept going in the final quarter and scored several baskets, which their possession and play deserved, winning the final quarter 14-6. Final score after an entertaining game was 64-27 to Flyers I. Leading scorers for Flyers I were Smith with 24 and Yusef Hafid with 10.
