Flyers U14s I cruised to a comfortable 30-point win over Surrey Rams II this weekend at the SGS WISE Arena.
The two teams had already played each other in a pre-season tournament in Surrey, which Flyers won 37–17, so team confidence was high.
The team for this game was Hassan Ali, Joe Britton, Alex Millman, James Panso, Ewan Strover, Nathan Symons, Louie Tucker, Louie West and Finley Woodward.
Despite the previous win against Surrey, the start of the game proved hard for the Flyers. The players could not seem to find their flow and were having trouble scoring. Rams were good on the fast break and put some easy points on the board, however Flyers persistence paid off and they ended the first quarter 17-8 up.
In the second quarter the momentum continued much as the first had ended and Flyers only conceded five points whilst putting 17 on the board. The Flyers found their rhythm in the 3rd and got to the basket much easier.
The score was kept distant for the rest of the game leading to a 79–49 win for the Flyers. A great result for the team, their first win in the national league, however there is plenty to work on in training particularly defence and communication.
Top rebounder was Hassan Ali with nine and Finley Woodward with seven.
Top scorers were Alex Millman with 20 and Finley Woodward with 13.
