Report: Bristol Flyers II 118-68 Oxford Brookes University

Bristol Flyers II claimed a huge victory against Oxford Brookes University in their Division Three South debut.

Flyers shared the scoring, with six players in double figures. David Mann celebrated his birthday with a 21 point performance, whilst Jordan Daniels matched him with 21 of his own. Curtly Ferguson had a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds along with four assists and three blocked shots.


WHAT HAPPENED

Flyers got off to a hot shooting start with Mann hitting two early threes. Daniels, Ferguson and Nestor Saa all joined him in connecting from distance in the first period. Captain Roy Owen led the attack, converting a three-point-play on a drive shortly followed by another lay-up. Oxford point guard J. Thomas answered back with an avalanche of made shots and totalled 17 points in the quarter, but Flyers still pulled ahead 32-21.

Flyers bench got into the action to start the second with Alex DeHaan hitting a three and then getting to the foul line. The Flyers picked up their defence and were able to extend their lead. Daniels’ hot hand continued, making a second three-pointer and then a couple of strong drives to the basket. Flyers went into half time ahead 63-30.

Flyers went from strength-to-strength in the third, with Daniels and Ferguson attacking the basket, getting into the penalty with multiple trips to the foul throw line. The quarter closed with Mann converting three free throws to leave it 88-45.

Flyers struggled to maintain their energy on defence in the final quarter and Oxford scored 23 points. Thomas was hot from distance for the visitors once again with 16 points, including four threes.

Veteran Curtly Ferguson was the standout in the quarter for Flyers with nine points including a high flying put back. Owen had an efficient game with 13 points (71.4% FG) and six assists. The game finished Flyers 188-68 Oxford.
