Bristol Flyers can confirm Jordan Ranklin will return to the SGS WISE Arena for the 2015/16 season.
The 6ft 6in forward made 30 appearances for the Flyers last season, and becomes the sixth player to commit to Andreas Kapoulas’ squad for the upcoming campaign, in the top tier of British Basketball.
Bristol-born Ranklin attended SGS College from 2004-2007, and is a product of their highly successful basketball academy.
The 27 year old forward spent five years at the University of Worcester, where he picked up valuable BBL experience with the Worcester Wolves, before returning to his hometown club in 2011.
“It feels great to be a part of the Bristol Flyers for their second season in the BBL,” Ranklin told bristolflyers.co.uk.
“Bristol is my hometown, so I feel privileged to represent the city where I grew up.”
“Playing in this league has provided new challenges, and a new found motivation to work harder than ever this off-season. I aspire to bring a stronger presence on the boards and a lot of passion this year.”
In Ranklin’s four seasons with the Flyers, the team were EBL Division One runners-up in 2012 and 2013, as well as BBL Cup semi-finalists during the team’s first year in the top flight. Jordan also played a key role in last season’s Play-Off qualification campaign and he puts this down to the fact that the core of the squad has remained constant.
“This will be my fifth season with the club, and to still be playing beside players such as Greg Streete, Roy Owen and Doug McLaughlin-Williams is a testament to how team chemistry has been a solid foundation to our success as a club.”
Jordan will be looking to continue his basketball career playing for the Flyers, while studying at the University of West of England as a postgraduate student.
Bristol Flyers’ head coach Andreas Kapoulas was pleased to have secured another member of last season’s play-off qualification campaign.
“Jordan is a product of our junior club and academy pathway, and really helped our success in our first year in the BBL. He brings great work ethic and physicality to our roster as well as experience as he knows our system and ethos. Jordan’s commitment and attitude is a terrific example for all young aspiring players and I am really pleased to see him return for our second year in the BBL.”
