Bristol Flyers v Sheffield Sharks
SGS WISE Arena
Saturday, March 7th, 7.30pm
Bristol Flyers go in search of their fifth straight win this Saturday against Sheffield Sharks at the SGS WISE Arena (7.30pm tip-off).
All the key information on Saturday's BBL opponents can be found below.
SHEFFIELD SHARKS
Beginning life as the Sheffield Forgers in 1991, the team played in the National Basketball League until 1994 when the side was rebranded as the Sharks and moved into the BBL. One of the most successful sides in BBL history, Sharks have finished in the top two 11 times (including four wins) in their 20 years in the top flight. Despite their impressive BBL performances, Sharks have won the play-offs just once, defeating Cheshire Phoenix in 2004. Sheffield have stuttered so far this season, with a 10-15 record seeing the team languishing one place outside the play-off positions behind Flyers and Giants in 7th and 8th respectively. Sharks will be hoping to stop their current losing streak which now stretches to six games.
COACH
Atiba Lyons – Joining Sharks as a player in 2006, Lyons made the step up to coach in 2008. During his tenure, Lyons has won two BBL Cups, one BBL Trophy and led the team to two 2nd place finishes as well as runners-up in the 2011 play-offs.
STAR MAN
BJ Holmes – Small in height but not in stature, 5’10” Holmes has proved himself a leader on the court for Sharks since signing in 2012. The point guard from Florida is currently fifth in the league for free-throw percentage with 76% and proved himself to be a thorn in Flyers side earlier in the season during Sharks 73-72 loss at SGS WISE.
OFFICIALS
Taking charge of Friday’s game will be Haydn Jones, Gavin Williams and Neil McKelvey.
