Bristol Flyers v Sheffield Sharks
BBL Championship
Tuesday, April 17th 2018
SGS WISE Arena
Bristol Flyers look to edge closer to a BBL Play-Off berth, as they host the Sheffield Sharks on Tuesday night (7:30pm).
Everything you need to know on Tuesday night’s opponents can be found below.
Following the weekend’s results, Bristol Flyers need two wins in their last five games to claim a place in the postseason.
Alternatively just one win for Bristol Flyers combined with one defeat for Cheshire Phoenix in their last four games will clinch a play-off berth for a second year in a row.
With Phoenix not playing until Saturday night, a win on Tuesday will not guarantee Flyers’ place in the BBL Play-Offs.
A victory for Sheffield Sharks on Tuesday night will confirm their place in the BBL Play-Offs.
Coach K and Daniel Edozie are set to fly into Manchester airport on Tuesday afternoon and are hoping to make it back to Bristol in time for the 7.30pm tip-off - their involvement in Tuesday's game is TBC.
Acting head coach Nick Burns is set to take control of Tuesday's game against the Sharks.
Mike Vigor is set to fly back to the UK later this week, and will not be involved in Tuesday's game.
Sheffield Sharks are one of the more decorated clubs in the BBL. They are multiple BBL Play-off winners, multiple BBL League champions and have taken home the BBL Trophy and Cup on numerous occasions.
The Sharks occupied the fourth seed for a long stretch, but a dip in form has put them in seventh place with a record of 16-12.
Chris Alexander has been phenomenal for Sheffield this season. Alexander has been so effective on the offensive end that he is eighth in scoring in the BBL and draws more fouls than any other player in the league.
The guard will look to dictate the pace of the game and it will be on Flyers’ defence to contain Alexander as much as possible.
Sharks’ record since Atiba Lyons was appointed as Head Coach in 2008 has been impressive. Lyons has brought success to the Sharks by winning two BBL Cups, one BBL Play-off title and finishing second in the league twice.
Lyons has ensured that Sheffield stay competitive and consistent; finishing fourth in the league last year and third the season before hand.
Bristol Flyers claimed a hard-fought victory away at Sheffield Sharks, coming out winners in a topsy-turvy encounter.
Adam Weary led the game with 16 points as well as four rebounds and two assists, whilst Leslee Smith claimed a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds.
What a game 😅
