Bristol Flyers v Newcastle Eagles
BBL Championship,
Saturday, January 6th,
SGS WISE Arena,
SOLD OUT!
Bristol Flyers look for a positive start to 2018, as they host Newcastle Eagles on Saturday night (7:30pm).
Everything you need to know on Saturday's opponents can be found below.
With seven BBL league titles, six BBL trophies and winners of the Play-offs six times, Newcastle Eagles are the most successful club in BBL history. Despite starting their 2017/18 campaign with a perfect 8-0 record, Eagles’ form has dipped slightly in recent weeks. Since their hot start, Eagles have gone 2-3 and relinquished the first seed to the Leicester Riders.
Head Coach Fab Flournoy has been with the Eagles since 2001 and took on a new role of player/coach during the 2003/04 season. Flournoy has had success as both a player and a coach. The 6’3 shooting guard was a student at NCAA Division one college McNeese State University and played in the BBL for the Birmingham Bullets and Eagles, respectively.
Darius Defoe and Saah Nimley scored 18 points apiece as Bristol Flyers suffered their heaviest defeat of the season to the Newcastle Eagles at the SGS WISE Arena.
The Newcastle Eagles concluded last season with a second place finish and a BBL Cup final victory over Glasgow Rocks. Although Eagles enjoyed a deep Play-off run, they eventually lost to the champion Leicester Riders 84-63.
Please note, SGS College has introduced paid parking system, however the club has reached an agreement with Aviva insurance, a short five minute walk away from the WISE campus for fans to use their car park free of charge.
Eagles’ 6’2 guard Jaysean Paige has been spectacular in the first half of the season. The American is leading the BBL in scoring, with 23 points per game, and will be the focus of the Bristol Flyers’ defence.
In addition to Paige’s overpowering ability to score, the Eagles’ guard has also recorded just under six assists per game. His willingness to share the ball has caused problems for opposing defences all season long.
On the defensive end, Paige has been one to look out for. Coming into the contest the guard is averaging 1.8 steals per game.
Fabulous Flournoy is just seven field goals away from notching 3,000 in his BBL career.
Saturday's game will be available to watch LIVE via the BBL’s official streaming partner, LiveBaketball.TV (subscription) - click here to sign up NOW.
