BBL Championship,
Saturday, January 27th
SGS WISE Arena,
SOLD OUT!
Bristol Flyers look to get back to winning ways, as they host London Lions on Saturday night (7:30pm).
Everything you need to know on Saturday night’s opponents can be found below.
In 2012, Lions moved from Milton Keynes to London and have experienced some success. Over the course of the last six seasons, Lions have made the Play-offs each year notably losing two Newcastle in the 2015 final. London started the season strong by winning the Betway All-Star Championship. Lions will be a tough match-up for Flyers, as they currently occupy the fourth seed in the league.
Having stepped down as Head Coach at the end of the 2014/15 season to focus on the business side of the club, Lions' owner Vince Macaulay finds himself back in the coaching hot seat following the dismissal of Mariusz Karol. Having led the Lions to the BBL Play-off final in 2015, Macauley has high hopes of seeing London compete on the European stage in the next three years.
In a game that could have gone either way, London Lions edged it 63-67 at the SGS WISE Arena.
London Lions finished last season sixth in the league with a record of 18-15. Many believed Lions would challenge for a top spot after posting an impressive 9-1 record in all competitions through their first ten games.
Unfortunately, London lost an integral piece in Jamal Williams to injury and their form never returned to the dizzying heights of the start of the season. Lions made the Play-offs but were defeated by Newcastle Eagles in the semi final.
Bristol Flyers will be celebrating Australia Day during Saturday's game. From Aussie giveaways to Australian-themed music, the club will also be having a bit of Aussie-themed fun on their official Twitter account throughout the evening.
Please note, SGS College has introduced paid parking this week, however the club has reached an agreement with Aviva insurance, a short five minute walk away from the WISE campus for fans to use their car park free of charge.
6’8 Forward, Cory Dixon has been a recent addition to the club has been overwhelming opponents, by averaging 18 points per game on just over 50% from the field.
Dixon’s inside presence has been a nightmare for other teams, as he has grabbed nine rebounds per game and recorded almost two blocks per game. Coach K will surely want to put a body on Dixon, especially in the paint.
Saturday's game will be available to watch LIVE via the BBL’s official streaming partner, LiveBaketball.TV (subscription) - click here to sign up NOW.
