Bristol Flyers face Newcastle Eagles in the biggest game in the club’s history – the BBL play-off quarter-final first leg this evening at SGS (7.30pm tip-off). Flyers then travel north on Friday for the second leg.

All the key information Flyers’ play-off opponents can be found below.

NEWCASTLE EAGLES
Eagles are the most successful side in BBL history, having won 7 league championships, 5 play-offs, 6 BBL Trophies, and 4 BBL Cups. Eagles are the only BBL side to have completed the clean sweep in a season – winning the BBL Cup, BBL Trophy and Championship “double”. This is a feat they have completed twice, in 2006 and 2012, and which they are on course to repeat this season if they can make it past the Bristol Flyers in the play-off quarter-finals.

COACH
Fabulous ‘Fab’ Flournoy – Eagles player/head coach Flournoy joined the North-East side in 2001 following five years in the BBL with Birmingham Bullets and Sheffield Sharks. Accepting the role of head coach in 2003/04 Flournoy transformed the side from mid-table obscurity to title challengers overnight. Leading the team to top 3 finishes in each of the next 11 seasons, Fab is one of the most successful BBL coaches of all time. Currently battling an injury, Flournoy may not appear as a player for the first leg but his leadership off the court is sure to be there for all to see.

STAR MAN
Charles Smith – Although not considered a starter, the 39 year-old forward is one of Eagles star performers. Averaging 18.6 per game coming off the bench this season, Smith finished fourth in the league for scoring. During his time with Eagles, the veteran American has won 17 pieces of silverware and 4 finals MVP awards, making him one to watch this evening.

OFFICIALS
Taking charge of Friday’s game will be Gavin Williams, Darren Bolt and Piottr Florecki.

TICKETS
Limited tickets for this game will be available on the door – please note that season tickets are not valid for this game.

LAST TIME OUT
Flyers suffered a crushing 101-74 defeat away to the Eagles.

LAST SEASON
BBL: 1st (Lost in play-off final)
BBL Trophy: Quarter-final
BBL Cup: Runner-up

DID YOU KNOW?
This is Flyers first BBL play-off appearance, coming in their debut season, making them the first side to achieve this since Everton Tigers in 2008.
