Nothing Bland About Flyers' New York Signing

Bristol Flyers Basketball team reveal new summer signing of 6’9” forward Alif Bland from New York ahead of their start to the British Basketball Season.

The Albany, N.Y. native finished his four-year college career with Roberts Wesleyan as one of the all-time greats. Over his career, Bland scored 1,395 points, blocked 343 shots, hauled in 749 rebounds, and accumulated 194 assists. Bland ranks tenth all time in Roberts Wesleyan program history in points, seventh in rebounds, and first in blocks. The 6’-9” forward also has the distinction of becoming just the 25th player to join the 1,000 point club in program history.

In his 2011/12 senior college year, he averaged over 31 minutes, 15.4 points, 54.7% field goal success together with 7.9 rebounds over a 28-game season.

The 24 year old joins from the German Pro A league where he played for the Cuxhaven Baskats averaging eight points and five rebounds while shooting a career high 58% from the field.

Not new to the BBL, Bland he played for Cheshire Jets during the 2012/13 season averaging 15 points and 8 rebounds while shooting 55% from the field in 35 minutes per game.

On joining the Flyers Bland said: “I am very excited to be back in the BBL and I am even more excited to join the Bristol Flyers organisation that I have heard great things about. I’m looking forward to getting to Bristol at the end of August, see what’s in store for me and really want to see how far we can take this season.”

Flyers’ head coach Andreas Kapoulas added: “We are very pleased to welcome Alif to our programme. He brings valuable experience from his time in the BBL as well as Germany's Pro A league. He strengthens our front court significantly and adds a very athletic physical presence to our game.

“We are putting together a balanced squad that fits the ethos of our Club and adding Alif is another big addition as we enter our first year in the BBL.”
