Mike Vigor pens new deal with Bristol Flyers

Mike Vigor has penned a new one-year deal with the Bristol Flyers, with an option to extend for a further year.

The Australian forward returns for his third season in the BBL, after joining the Flyers in June 2016 following a one-year spell with the Plymouth Raiders.

Born in Aberdeen, Vigor made 33 appearances last season, averaging 9.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.

“There’s just a really good feeling around the club,” Vigor told bristolflyers.co.uk.

"The fact that they have a three-to-five year plan shows there’s some really exciting times ahead.

"We want to be a powerhouse club. We don’t want to just make it into the play-offs anymore - we see ourselves as a top four team in the years to come.”

Vigor made 33 appearances for the Flyers last season, averaging 9.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.

The 6ft 9in forward also has experience in Australia’s top flight with the Perth Wildcats and in the second tier (SEABL) with the Bendigo Braves.

Vigor, who holds both Australian and British nationality, is currently playing for the Perth Redbacks in Australia’s SBL this summer, and will link up with his Flyers team-mates following the conclusion of their campaign.

"Bristol has been like a second home to me and I’ve really felt like a part of the Flyers Family,” he continued.

"There’s no secret as to why it was voted the best place to live in the UK.

“Last season turned out to be a successful year for us in the end, but I still feel like there’s a lot more to come from us.

"We felt like we had some unfinished business - it was great to make the play-offs but we really want to take another step forward this season.”

Flyers head coach Andreas Kapoulas was pleased secure the services of another key member from last season’s squad.

"Mike is a big part of what we are trying to build here in Bristol,” he said.

"He offers us a lot of flexibility as a player does a lot of great things on the court to really add value to our team.

"It's beyond numbers or shooting percentages - Mike is able to compliment everybody in our squad."

Andreas Kapoulas

"He can score inside and out, but he is also a great passer and I think this coming season he will be able to expand his game even more for the benefit of our team."

Vigor becomes the third player to return for Bristol Flyers ahead of the 2017/18 campaign, joining the likes of Brandon Boggs and Leslee Smith.
