Mayindombe injury blow

Panos Mayindombe is set to face a long-term spell on the sidelines with a recurring achilles injury.

The 31-year-old guard missed the last two games against London Lions and Plymouth Raiders and has been assessed by club therapist Craig Barden, where it was concluded that he would need to miss the next few weeks to allow him to fully recover before stepping back on the court.

"Panos has been battling with an overuse injury to his achilles for a few seasons,” Barden told bristolflyers.co.uk.

"These sorts of issues aren't uncommon in basketball, but unfortunately Panos' condition has decreased over the past month and he is currently unable to practice or play.

"It's not possible to give an exact time frame as these injuries don't heal like a simple strain or sprain, but we are not anticipating to see Panos back on the court for a number of weeks, possibly months.

"Those who have seen Panos play will have seen his high energy levels, so for him to be sat on the sidelines is obviously a big blow for him and the team, but we are doing all we can to get him fit and healthy and back involved.”
