Report: London Lions 103-69 Bristol Flyers

Bristol Flyers will face Sheffield Sharks away from home in the BBL Cup Quarter-final following a 103-69 defeat to London Lions on Wednesday night.

Levi Bradley led Flyers with a season-high 20 points and 8 rebounds off the bench.

Flyers fell behind early with Lions getting inside scoring from their frontcourt of Brandon Peel, Dii’Jon Allen-Jordan and Alioune Tew. Gentrey Thomas got the first points on the board for Bristol with a driving lay-up. Peel quickly got back to work in the paint for another score. With baskets hard to come by for Flyers, Lions opened up a 23-15 lead by the end of the first period.

A strong start to the second quarter saw Flyers cut the margin to just two points. Bradley, Marcus Delpeche and Chris Taylor brought energy and scoring off the Bristol bench. Taylor completed a pair of three-point plays, driving in and drawing fouls. Raphell Thomas-Edwards was next to step up for the visitors, scoring on back-to-back possessions from strong drives to the basket.

Reigning league MVP Justin Robinson responded with a much-needed basket for the home team. The teams traded baskets and Lions managed to hold onto their lead, extending the margin with Peel heating up from the outside. A final Lions three-pointer from Sam Toluwase gave Flyers a double digit deficit at the half, 50-39.

Flyers could not find answers for Peel in the second half and he poured in 11 points personally in the period. Robinson was hot from outside, while Flyers struggled to get into rhythm on offence. Bradley and Fred Thomas were able to sink shots for the struggling Flyers but the quarter finished 76-52.

Lions dispelled any hopes of a late comeback with another scoring run early in the fourth quarter sparked by Jules Dang Akodo. With the margin over 30 points, Flyers battled throughout the remainder of the game but were unable to make significant inroads. Lions big Jordan Jackson punctuated the win with a fierce two-handed dunk, 103-69.

Flyers finish the group stage of the BBL Cup with a 6-4 record and fall to third place behind Worcester having lost both games against the Wolves. Flyers will travel to Sheffield Sharks for their quarter final game on Sunday December 1st (4pm tip-off).
