Report: Bristol Flyers 94-96 Worcester Wolves (OT)

Bristol Flyers fell victim to a second half fightback from Worcester Wolves, going down 94-96 after five minutes of overtime at the SGS College Arena.

Flyers looked set to earn their second win of the season, before Coach Kapoulas’ side let slip a 22 point lead as Worcester maintained their 100% record in the Southern Conference of the BBL Cup.

Lewis Champion ended with a BBL career-high 20 points to go along with five assists, but it just wasn’t enough to overcome the Wolves, who landed 60% of their shots from behind the three point line.

It had been plain sailing for the Flyers in the first half, with Marcus Delpeche giving the fans an emphatic dunk to beat the first quarter buzzer, lifting Bristol to an 11 point lead after the first ten minutes.

With leading scorer Gentrey Thomas sidelined through an ankle injury, Lewis Champion’s 16 first half points put Bristol in the driving seat at half-time with a 48-32 lead.

But in a second half to forget for the Flyers, the visitors fought back with a game-high 35 points from summer signing Cortez Edwards to tie the game at 82 points apiece to force the extra period.

Fred Thomas gave Bristol their biggest lead of the game at 22 with just five minutes to play in the third - But in a crucial 14-2 run either side of the third quarter break, Worcester caught fire from deep, which ultimately proved to be Flyers’ downfall.

Limited standing and courtside tickets remain for the South West Derby against Plymouth Raiders on Friday, October 11th.
