Kapoulas named Great Britain Senior Men’s Assistant Coach

Andreas Kapoulas has been named the new assistant coach to the Great Britain senior men’s national team.

Renowned for his work in the British Basketball League, Kapoulas will continue his role with the Flyers, whilst working with interim head coach Marc Steutel, who steps in for Nate Reinking due to his NBA G-League commitments with Canton Charge.

Long-term GB stalwart Jamie Smith also returns as assistant coach alongside Kapoulas for the upcoming February EuroBasket 2021 Qualifying window.

Coach Kapoulas already has a wealth of experience and knowledge on the international stage. The 2015 Molten BBL Coach of the Year previously led the GB Under-20s to Division A promotion at the 2016 European Championships, before being named the England Head Coach at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
BBF Independent director (Performance) Toni Minichiello said: “We are delighted to be able to add someone of real pedigree and experience in Andreas.

“This is about building for the long-term with Nate Reinking as the driving force of this cultural change with a talented, experienced group in place around him.

“Marc Steutel and Jamie Smith provide the valuable continuity with the brilliant unbeaten start Nate has made with the team."

Kapoulas’ first competitive games as GB assistant coach will be during the upcoming EuroBasket 2021 Qualifying window.

Great Britain will face Montenegro in Podgorica on Friday, February 21st, before concluding the International window against Germany at the Newcastle Eagles Community Arena on Monday, February 24th.
