Junior Flyers receive England call-up

Basketball England have announced that two Bristol Flyers youngsters have been called up to their respective England squads.

Marvin Dinnall (Flyers junior programme) and Molly James (Flyers Women) and took part in the Under-15s and 16’s Men’s and Women’s Regional Development Tournament held in Manchester last weekend.

The tournament saw 230 hopefuls showcase their basketball skills in a bid to make the final 68.

Marvin Dinnall, who trains with the Bristol Academy Flyers, made history last year with the Flyers' U15’s squad as they won the South West Regional Tournament. Marvin has also been selected to represent England in the U16 Men’s and U15 Boys’ squad.

Molly James joined the Flyers last year in order to further develop her skills and have a taste of competitive senior women’s basketball. This was something Coach Till encouraged, knowing she would be attending England trials this year.

Basketball England's Programme & Pathway Integration Manager Charlie Ford said, "I'm delighted that so many talented players have been selected for the upcoming squads.

"Well done to the coaches and volunteers whose hard work and dedicated have helped those selected reach this level. The Regional Development Tournament was impressive throughout with a lot of high quality games. Picking two pools of players from that group was very difficult."

Matt Harber, GB Under-16s Women's' head coach added: "Throughout these past two days, we had the opportunity to watch some great games of basketball between a lot of passionate athletes who have clearly been working hard over the summer with their respective regional coaching staff.

"We saw a number of familiar faces from previous Under-13s RDT's and the Under-15s National Development Programme with Coach Cristina Staniuca; a number of whom have improved at a really impressive rate.

"Furthermore, it is also exciting to see the new emerging talent, which will provide a welcomed addition to the upcoming National Team camps.”

"I must also comment on the energy and atmosphere created at the National Performance Centre by all the support throughout some exciting, close and competitive games. It was great to see a number of this summer's Great Britain Under-16 national teams and so many of the British basketball community come out to Manchester to support all of the players during such a fantastic event.

"Congratulations to all of the players, plus their respective coaches and clubs who have supported their growth and development to this point.”

Bristol Flyers are delighted to be part of Marvin and Molly's development and hope they can inspire many generations to get involved with British basketball.
