Surrey Scorchers

Surrey Scorchers continue a long tradition of basketball in the region having formed in 2005 as the Guildford Heat. The franchise has struggled in recent seasons having missed out on the post season in 2018/19 and 2020/21.

Scorchers are holding on to fourth place in the group with a 1-4 record so far. They will be hungry to get out of the bottom qualifying spot if possible and with two games coming up against Flyers it's important we set the tone at home.

HEAD COACH

Creon Raftopoulos has been a mainstay of Surrey basketball for over a decade having coached Guildford Heat from 2010 onwards and joining Scorchers as head coach following the rebrand in 2015. He won the BBL coach of the year award in 2017/18 after leading the team to an unbeaten home record and a fifth place finish.

ONE TO WATCH

Scorchers added Great Britain international Andrew Lawrence to the roster over the summer. After missing out on playing with Plymouth Raiders in the 2020/21 season due to injury, the guard has been making up for lost time already this year.

He was on fire from three-point range in their last game, hitting 4-7 from outside the arc on his way to 17 points and he is averaging over five assists per game despite limited minutes as he returns from injury.

LAST TIME OUT

Bristol Flyers put on a dominant display at the SGS College Arena in February, extinguishing the visitors 89-67. Eric Lockett led all scorers with 18 points. Ogedengbe had 14 for Surrey.
