London Lions are a BBL mainstay, with big ambitions and big money backers. As the only British club in senior European competition this season, the Lions expect to be successful in domestic competitions too.

A 2-0 start in the BBL Cup for London sees them tied with Flyers at the top of the Southern group and makes this game crucial in determining who will remain in the top spot at the end of the weekend.

HEAD COACH

Vince Macaulay has been the owner of the Lions franchise since 1998, and has spent much of his tenure as the club’s head coach. Now working with 777 partners to expand the Lions franchise into Europe, Macaulay has had notable success with Lions in recent years.

The addition of British guard Justin Robinson in 2017 brought star power, with Lions winning the regular season campaign in 2018/19 and also claiming the BBL Cup. Last season saw London win the BBL Trophy and finish runners up in the BBL Championship regular season and play-offs.

ONE TO WATCH

With only one game played for the Lions’ first team, it was returning star Dirk Williams who shone the brightest. The first team were isolating for COVID reasons and their second team claimed an unlikely victory in their season-opener.

Normal business resumed for Lions last weekend when they hosted Plymouth City Patriots. Williams had an efficient 19 points on 57% shooting from the floor. Containing the athletic wing scorer will be one of many defensive challengers for Flyers in the match up.

LAST TIME OUT

Flyers lost out 85-74 on the road back in April - Dirk Williams led all scorers with 19 points.
