Ieuan Alex Jones takes on dual Flyers role

Ieuan Alex Jones has been appointed as an assistant coach to the SGS basketball academy and will support the Flyers first team squad as a performance analyst.

The 23-year-old brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, having previously worked with the Great Britain junior and senior programmes as a performance analysis coach.

This past summer, Jones was part of the Great Britain Under-16s coaching staff that finished fourth in the Division B European Championships held in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Alongside his role with the club and the academy, Ieuan Alex Jones is currently studying for a masters degree in performance analysis at Cardiff Metropolitan University.

“I’m delighted to have the opportunity to progress my coaching career with this exciting new role.” Jones told bristolflyers.co.uk.

"I’ve known Andreas for around three years now, and he reached out to me over the summer to ask if I can get on board with the academy, and the club programme.

“We have some very talented players in the SGS basketball academy and it’s a great pathway into the BBL team, so it is exciting to be able to play my part in supporting our players to fulfil their potential.

"We want to develop academy players to a high level and teach them to play the Flyers way.”

Ieuan Alex Jones will also be working as Head Coach to the Bristol Flyers Under-16s junior team, whilst still supporting the men’s programme with scouting.

"I’m really looking forward to helping with the scouting side of things for the men’s first team.” Jones revealed.

"My job will be to make sure the coaching staff and players are as well informed as possible about our performance and opponents.”

Bristol Flyers Head Coach Andreas Kapoulas added: "Ieuan is a young, talented coach, with high aspirations and most importantly understands the vision for our basketball programme and the standards of what we are trying to grow here.

“Ieuan has a genuine interest in improving our programme and contributing to the process, I am sure that he will grab this opportunity with both hands and help build an exciting future for the club.”
