Bristol Flyers will enter a Women's team for the 2015/16 season for the first time in over five years.
The women's team join the Basketball England Women’s National League South West this season, playing at the SGS WISE arena.
The team are expected to be very competitive in the league and will help raise the profile of the women’s game.
The club will be working with SGS college, who have a women's Basketball Academy programme. There will be opportunities for players to progress through the Academy into the Senior National League team.
Ex-Flyers Captain, Gareth Till is announced as head coach. He was voted 'Coach of the Year 2012/13' after his two year spell with Bristol Storm women’s team for two seasons, taking them to league runners up twice and a play-off final.
“Myself, Andreas Kapoulas and Guy Coles have been discussing the possibilities of running a women’s team for some time and I’m delighted that we’ve committed to the 2015/16 season," Till told bristolflyers.co.uk.
"Andreas and the Flyers have been a huge success over the years. Seeing the Flyers in the BBL is a great achievement, and now as the Flyers women’s coach, my goal will be to try and emulate the men’s success.”
The opening game for Bristol Flyers Women is away in Cardiff on Saturday, October 10th.
“We would certainly like the Flyers family to know there is a women’s team and for them to come and support us. The appetite for Basketball in Bristol is very encouraging.”
Bristol Flyers are looking for new players and are holding 'Try-out Sessions' every Wednesday from July 22nd until the end of August.
"We've already had some very positive news in the way of recruitment, however we are still interested in hearing from players who would like to try out for the team," said Head Coach Gareth Till.
