Flyers Supporters Club 2021/22 Awards Revealed

The Bristol Flyers supporters club has voted on their 2021/22 end of season awards.

The Flyers Supporters club is an independently-ran group on Facebook, for members of the Flyers family to get together and discuss all things Flyers and British basketball.

Over the past few weeks, supporters have been voting on their player of the year, defensive player, most improved, sixth man and champagne moment of the season awards.

The winners were revealed first on a special edition of the Bristol Flyers podcast, with founding members of the Supporters Club, Sam Comley and Amy Atkinson.

Listen to the episode via all major podcast providers, or view the award winners below.

With 64% of the votes, Trejon Jacob has been named the Supporters Club’s Player of the Year, following an outstanding rookie season with the Flyers - where he averaged 15.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.

Defensive player of the year - Malcolm Delpeche

The Flyers Supporters Club voted Malcolm Delpeche as their Defensive player of the Year.

Delpeche enjoyed a successful return to the Flyers this past season, making 27 league appearances for the club, posting 13.2 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.0 blocks and 1.2 steals per game, including the series-winning block against Manchester Giants in the second leg of the BBL playoff quarter-final.

Most Improved Player - Corey Samuels

Corey Samuels showed significant improvement over the course of the season and was voted the Supporters Club’s most improved player.

Samuels had a successful first full season in the BBL after coming up through the club’s junior programme, making 24 league appearances for the club.

Sixth Man of the Year - Zach Simmons

Zach Simmons has been voted the Flyers Supporters Club’s Sixth Man of the Year.

After arriving from the University of North Texas, Simmons made 26 league appearances for the Flyers in his rookie season as a pro, with 22 of those coming off the bench.

Simmons posted a season average of 8.6 points and 6.3 rebounds per game, and played a huge role for the Flyers during the 2021/22 campaign.

Champagne Moment of the Year

The Flyers’ second leg comeback in the quarter-final of the BBL playoffs has been voted as the Supporters Club’s ‘Champagne Moment’ of the season.

After trailing by 12 points after the first leg, two clutch plays from Mike Miller and Malcolm Delpeche secured Bristol’s place in the playoff semi-final.
