Bristol Flyers are delighted to announce the signing of Josh Wilcher from the Plymouth Raiders.
The British/Australian point guard joins the club on a two-year contract with a wealth of BBL experience, having played five seasons in the league, making over 100 BBL Championship appearances.
Last season Wilcher made 10 league appearances for Plymouth, averaging 16.1 points and 6.1 assists per game, whilst leading the league in free throw percentage, shooting 94% from the foul line.
Speaking to the club’s official YouTube channel, Wilcher said : "I’m really excited to be joining the Flyers.
"I spoke to Coach Kapoulas a lot about the club’s plans for the future and there's exciting times ahead with the plans to build a new arena, so I can't wait to be a part of it.
"I’ve got some interesting memories of playing against Bristol over the years, so It’ll be cool to be on the other side of it now.
"Bristol have been a team that’s been in and around the play-offs for most of their BBL career, so I’d like to help them move up the table and add to the core players that they’ve brought back this season."
Wilcher’s British basketball journey began in NBL Division One, where he played against the Flyers for Reading Rockets in 2013 and was named the league's player of the year.
He spent the following two years in the BBL with Plymouth before a year-long spell in Cheshire and season with Itzehoe Eagles in Germany’s Pro-B.
Wilcher returned to the Raiders in 2018, where he took on the role of club captain and was named the fan’s MVP after helping Plymouth secure a first play-off berth in six years.
"Josh is a player that we’ve played against on numerous occasions over the years, going way back to days in NBL Division One,” said Flyers Head Coach Andreas Kapoulas.
“We always thought that he would fit very well into our system, but the timing has never been right until now. We’re very glad to finally be able to welcome him to our programme.
“Everyone across the league is fully aware of Josh’s qualities as a player. He is smart, tough, crafty and can impact the game in a number of ways.
“We’re all excited to work with him over the next two years as we look to continue our progress on and off the court.”
