Flyers sign Antwain Johnson on short term deal

Bristol Flyers have officially added American guard Antwain Johnson to their roster on a short term contract.

The 6ft2in playmaker joins the Flyers having spent the 2020/21 season with Batumi in the Georgian Superleague, where he made 13 appearances for the club, averaging 19.2 points per game.

He went on to be named in the 2021 Sioux Falls Skyforce training camp roster at the beginning of the season, the NBA G League affiliate of the Miami Heat.

"I’m super excited to be able to come here and play for a great programme like the Flyers,” said Johnson.

"I already have a great relationship with Marcus (Evans) and TJ (Trejon Jacob). We trained together all summer, so it’s going to be a good experience to play with those guys again.

“Coach is expecting me to come in and fill in the spot for Mike Miller whilst he’s injured and help out in any way I can.

"I’ve heard that the club has a great family-like environment and everybody plays for one another, so I can’t wait to be a part of that."

Johnson spent his senior year of college at the University of Buffalo, where he started in all 32 games for the Bulls and averaged 10.7 points per game during the 2019/20 season.

Speaking on the arrival of Johnson, Flyers Head Coach Andreas Kapoulas said: "We are very pleased to have Antwain on board in an important stretch of games for our club.

"He is a skilled combo guard with high level college and pro experience that will help our team on both ends of the court.

"We don’t usually bring players in on short term arrangements, however with Mike Miller being such an integral member of our roster, we wanted to bring someone that will fit our programme as a person and a player to give Mike the opportunity to fully recover while we still remain competitive on the floor.

“We look forward to seeing Antwain in action with our team at Friday’s home game against Leicester."
