Flyers Retain Core For 2015/16 Season

Bristol Flyers confirm that club captain Greg Streete, Roy Owen and Doug McLaughlin-Williams will all return to the WISE Arena for the 2015/16 season.

Having played key roles in helping the Flyers to the BBL Play-Offs in their debut season, the trio become the first players to commit to Andreas Kapoulas’ squad for the upcoming campaign in the top tier of British Basketball.

Bristol-born guard Greg Streete has been with the club since its formation, and now enters his eleventh season playing for his hometown team.

“Bristol has always been my home,” he told Bristol Flyers TV.

“I really like the direction that Basketball in is heading in Bristol, and I really want to help push it to hopefully pave the way for others.”

Streete joins Roy Owen and American forward Doug McLaughlin-Williams, who now enter their fifth year together playing for the Flyers.

“Keeping the same core has been a huge factor in the team’s success over the years,” said Roy Owen.

“Greg is one of the most underrated British players in the league and Doug’s long-range shooting is key to opening up the offence,” he added.

“We all know what each other brings to the court and we have 100% trust in one another.”

As for McLaughlin-Williams, the 6ft 8in forward has enjoyed an extremely impressive start to life in the BBL, after spending five years with the club during their time in EBL division one.

The American made 33 appearances for the Flyers during their debut BBL campaign, averaging 10.9 points per game, whilst shooting 38% from behind the three point line.

“It feels great to be coming back for my seventh season with the club”, McLaughlin-Williams said.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge of improving on last year’s success. I know it’s going to take a lot of hard work, but hopefully a few more wins in front of our fans at the WISE Arena should help us along the way.”

Bristol Flyers’ head coach Andreas Kapoulas was pleased to have secured the core of last season’s squad.

“Consistency and team chemistry are important concepts for Bristol Flyers Basketball, and have brought success to our club,” the Greek coach said.

“Greg, Doug and Roy have all been with the team for a number of years, and have really stepped up to the BBL challenge last season.”

“It’s great to see all three of them return, they bring experience, work ethic and leadership to our 2015/16 roster, which will have some new additions to be announced soon.”

Season tickets for the 2015/16 season will go on sale on Monday, August 3rd.
