Flyers II captain signs pro contract in Italy

Bristol Flyers II star Jordan Daniels has signed a professional contract with Basket School Messina.

The club are based on the island of Sicily and compete in Italian Serie C. Daniels is the outgoing Bristol Flyers II captain, having led the team to a second promotion-winning season last year. Daniels was also the president of the UWE Jets basketball Club through another successful season in BUCS Premier South competition.

Daniels’ success is an important milestone for the partnership between Bristol Flyers and the University of the West of England (UWE).

He completed his undergraduate degree at UWE while playing for both the Jets and the Flyers and is the first student athlete to come out of the partnership and take up professional basketball.

With UWE contributing to the Flyers second team since it was restarted in 2017, the involvement of Daniels and his fellow student athletes has been a key component to the success of the team. Daniels was part of the 2017/18 team which won NBL Division Four South West earning promotion into Division Three. This year with Daniels as their Captain, the Flyers II managed a third placed finish in Division Three South and again earned promotion.

Next season while Daniels is playing in Sicily, his former team-mates will compete in Division Two North. With BBL Assistant Coach and England Under-15 Head Coach Chris Bourne taking over coaching responsibilities for the team, they are looking forward to another challenging year of competitive basketball.
