Flyers add Thomas Bell from North Texas

Bristol Flyers have completed the signing of Thomas Bell from the University of North Texas on a one-year deal.

The 6ft6in American forward has put pen to paper on his first professional contract and becomes the third player to join the Flyers out of UNT -  following in the footsteps of Mike Miller and Zach Simmons.

Bell won three Conference USA regular season championships during his time with the Mean Green, posting a career average of 9.8 points and 6.3 rebounds.

Last season Bell was named in the Conference USA Second Team All-Conference and in the Conference USA All-Defensive Team, averaging 12.5 points and a team-leading 7.1 rebounds per game.

Speaking on his first professional contract Bell said: "The fact that I’m leaving the country for the first time to play pro ball overseas is a dream. I’m looking forward to it and I’m going to take the experience head on.

"I spoke to Coach Kapoulas a number of times over the phone and he keeps it straight forward. He knows what he wants out of the team and he was clear that he wants us to compete for a championship.

"He told me that the BBL is a fast-paced league and he really sees my potential and wants to bring it out of me this year.

"I spoke to Mike (Miller) and Zach (Simmons) about their experience with the Flyers and they told me great things about the programme -  I can’t wait to see it for myself.

"I know Mike will be there with me too, so it will be good to have somebody I know to show me the ropes."

Speaking on the addition of Thomas Bell, Flyers Head Coach Andreas Kapoulas said: "It’s no real surprise that we have signed another North Texas player.

"Thomas is a prospect that we have been following closely over the last couple of years and I have really enjoyed talking to him during the recruitment process.

"He is an athletic and versatile forward that impacts winning in so many ways.

"The thing that stood out for me most during his college career was his team-first mentality - he’s a guy who is willing to do anything for the team to be successful.

"Last season he played a much bigger role for UNT and became a pivotal player, coming up with a host of big plays on a regular basis.

"I love the fact that he does not shy away from the big moments. His tenacious attitude and toughness will be invaluable to our team this season."
