Flyers add Raphell Thomas-Edwards to 2019/20 roster

Bristol Flyers have completed the signing of 6ft6in British forward Raphell Thomas-Edwards on a one-year deal.

The 26-year-old makes the step up from NBL Division One, where he averaged 23 points and 14.5 rebounds per game last season for the Leicester Warriors, earning himself a place in the 2018/19 NBL Division One Team of the Year.

Speaking on his move to Bristol, Thomas-Edwards said: “I’m very excited to join the Bristol Flyers organisation.

"The Flyers are a team that have come through the ranks over the years and I’m excited to help take this club to the next level.

"I had couple of calls with Coach Kapoulas and I’m really looking forward to translating my game into the BBL.

"I pride myself on being able to do as much as I can both offensively and defensively and I think Bristol is the perfect place for me to prove myself."

Thomas-Edwards played on the same GB U20 squad as Lewis Champion at the 2013 European Championships
Thomas-Edwards played for the England national team at junior level, competing in Division B at both the U16 and U18 European Championships.

He went on to represent Great Britain Under-20s at the 2013 European Championships, where he posted 10 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, whilst helping the team to Division A promotion alongside Flyers guard Lewis Champion.

During his collegiate career, Thomas Edwards spent two years at the University at Buffalo in NCAA Division One, before transferring to Gannon University in NCAA Division Two, averaging 8.7 points and 7.8 rebounds in his senior year.

Thomas-Edwards averaged 23 points and 14.5 rebounds per game last season for Leicester Warriors.
“Raphell fits the type of player we are looking to have within our club,” said Flyers head coach Andreas Kapoulas.

"He had a spectacular year in Division One last season and he’s a versatile player on both ends of the court.

"Utilising Division One as a pathway for British players to make it to the BBL is something we are proud of.

"We want players to develop their game with our club and make a real contribution to the league.

"Lewis Champion was given that opportunity last season, and we’re expecting Raphell to have a great first year with our programme."
