Edozie named in Kapoulas’ initial 24-man England squad

Daniel Edozie has been named in Andreas Kapoulas’ initial 24-man England squad ahead of training camp for the 2018 Commonwealth games.

The 6ft8in forward, who holds a British passport, has been selected in the long list of players, which will be cut down to just 12 before flying out to the Gold Coast in March 2018.

Edozie, 25, joined the Flyers in 2015 and went on to lead the BBL in rebounds in his debut season (10.9), whilst notching 12 double-doubles in 33 appearances for the club.

Edozie played in all 33 games for the Flyers last season, averaging 6.6 points and seven rebounds per game.

Of the 24 players selected for camp, 20 are currently plying their trade for teams in the BBL, once again showcasing the domestic-based talent currently available for potential Team England selection.

“It has been great to see the positive response from players to represent England in the Commonwealth Games,” said Andreas Kapoulas.

“We have a great group of players for the first camp with very strong representation from the domestic league and we look forward to starting our preparations.

“We have a solid mixture of youth and experience and it's very pleasing to see a number of players who have been involved in the England pathway now getting the opportunity to represent England at the senior level.”

Andreas Kapoulas led the GB Under-20s squad to promotion into Division A at the European Championships during the summer.
Kapoulas’ first competitive game as England head coach will be against Scotland on April 5th 2018 in the opening round of the Commonwealth Games in Townsville, Australia.

The GC2018 basketball competition will feature eight teams in both men’s and women’s competitions. Split into two pools of four, nations will face off against teams in their pool during the preliminary rounds held in Townsville and Cairns between 5-10 April. The finals will then be held at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre from 13-15 April.

The two preparation camps in Manchester will take place on the following dates:

Training camp two
