Delpeche returns for Bristol Flyers

Bristol Flyers are pleased to announced that Marcus Delpeche will stay with the club for the 2020/21 season.

An option to extend the his stay at the club has been exercised, meaning the 24-year-old will see out the second year of his contract, entering a third full season with the Flyers.

Delpeche played in all 12 league games for the Flyers last season, averaging 10.5 points and 4.1 rebounds per game, whilst playing a key role in helping the club reach their first ever BBL Cup Final.

“I’m really pleased that Coach Kapoulas has given me the opportunity to re-join the club,” said Delpeche.

“The club has always been good to me since my transition from Germany and they’ve welcomed me with open arms.

"We want to come back with a thunder this year. I’m sure my teammates will agree, but we felt like we should have won two trophies last season and unfortunately we dropped the ball twice.

"Coach Kapoulas has always brought in players which are a good fit for us, so with the team that he's putting together we’ll be ready to do something big this year."

Delpeche spent his collegiate career in NCAA Division III, where he earned first team all-NESCAC honours in his senior year at Bates College, finishing eighth in the league in scoring (15.1ppg) and third in the league in rebounds with a career-high 9.7 boards per game.

He went on to sign his first professional contract in Germany, where he helped the Grevenbroich Elephants to a second-place finish in the Regionalliga West, posting 11.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in his rookie season.

"Marcus is a player that has really grown in our system and he certainly made his presence felt in the paint this past season,” said Flyers Head Coach Andreas Kapoulas.

"His physicality, athleticism and energy are very important components to our overall game. We look forward to seeing him expand his contribution further this season.

Delpeche will also be completing his MSc at the University of the West of England whilst representing the Flyers.

Coach Kapoulas added: “Our partnership with the University of the West of England has allowed Marcus to continue his postgraduate studies, which is huge for our programme as we want to support our players with opportunities to develop off the court.”
