Chris Bourne appointed England Under-15s Head Coach

Chris Bourne has been named the new England Under-15s boys head coach.

Renowned for his work with the SGS Basketball Academy, Bourne will lead the Under-15 national team on a two year period, alongside his work with the Bristol Flyers.

Bourne, who is also an assistant coach to the Flyers’ BBL squad, has previously been involved with the England Under-15s programme as both an assistant and an apprentice, as well as becoming a constant figure for the South West Regional Performance Centre and the area’s RDT teams.

As part of his role, Bourne will be working closely with the England Talent Programme (ETP), which also features two young Bristol Flyers stars, Louie Tucker and Jason Soodeen, who both represent the Flyers at Under-16 level.

The first ETP camp began this week at the National Basketball Performance Centre in Manchester ahead of a busy schedule this summer, which includes trips to Paris, Valencia and Copenhagen as the ETP embraces the ethos of exposing young players to the style and rigours of European competition from an earlier age than ever before.

Basketball England’s Programme & Pathway Integration Manager Charlie Ford said: “I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome all the incoming staff to the organisation and I am sure they will prove to be excellent assets to the ETP. The next few years will involve a radical shift in how we nurture and develop our talented young athletes and I’m excited for the various staff members appointed to be involved in that process.”
