Bristol Flyers Top 10 Social Media Moments of 2018

Narrowing down the alternative universe of social media to its subjectively best moments throughout an entire year is an overwhelming task.

The last 12 months for Bristol Flyers have been the most successful in the club’s BBL era, both on and off the court. The club’s Twitter account have become well-known through the British Basketball community for pushing the online boundaries - from hilarious GIFs to engaging video content and friendly trolling.

So with that in mind, here are ten of the best moments that the Bristol Flyers social media channels had to offer in 2018.

10 - HERE COMES THE MONEY

The British Basketball All-Stars Championship returned for its second year in October, as the top eight teams from the 2017/18 season competed for a record-breaking £100,000 prize fund.

After defeating Surrey Scorchers in the opening round of the competition, the club’s Twitter account sent out a cheeky reminder of the prize money at stake.

9 - DANIEL EDOZIE = FLYERS LOYAL

The beginning of a new series of Love Island fell quite nicely with Daniel Edozie putting pen to paper on a new contract over the summer.

8 - 'L' IS FOR LONDON LIONS

January saw the Flyers pick up a crucial win against London Lions in the BBL play-off race - a result which prompted a friendly bit of online trolling…

7 - THE GREG STREETE TESTIMONIAL

After officially calling time on his 12 year playing career, the club honoured Greg Streete with a testimonial game in September, where he delivered a heartfelt speech which was very well received by fans across social media.

6 - SHEFFIELD SHARKS DO DO DO DO DO DO

Ahead of the Flyers’ clash with Sheffield Sharks, it was always going to be a social media win to link it in with the ‘Baby Shark’ song…

The tweet went down so well that we even decided to change the Sharks’ intro music on the night.

5 - PLAY-OFF SEMI-FINAL BOUND

Bristol Flyers picked up a historic win over Newcastle Eagles to advance to the BBL play-off semi-finals, but it was Panos Mayindombe who stole the limelight with his hilarious reaction from the bench.

And of course a first win over Newcastle Eagles called for another Coach K viral edit… 😂

4 - THE BEGINNING OF A NEW ERA

There was a lot of excitement and love for the Ashton Gate Sports & Convention Centre on Twitter.

3 - BROMANCE AT ITS BEST

It was an emotional reunion for Andreas Kapoulas and Nick Burns following Coach K’s return from leading England at the Commonwealth Games…

In fact… Nick Burns memes were a popular trend in 2018…

2 - AUSTRALIA DAY CELEBRATIONS

The Flyers celebrated Australia Day in style back in January, with an upside down themed night on Twitter.

1 - ALL-STARS CHAMPIONSHIP - NBA JAM SPOOF

Don’t lie… You’d definitely buy a copy of this game…
