Bristol Flyers have completed the signing of 6ft 8in forward Tyrone Lee as Coach Kapoulas’ final signing for the 2015/16 season.
The American forward joins the Flyers from Australia Pro-League side Mount Gambier Pioneers, where he won the SEABL Championship last season averaging 15.1 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.
The Detroit native played his university basketball at NCAA Division II college Grand Valley State, where he helped the team to a 19-9 overall record in his senior year, averaging 10.1 points per game and a team-best 5.9 rebounds, whilst shooting nearly 48 percent from the field.
“I’m very happy to have signed with the Bristol Flyers this season,”Lee told Bristol Flyers TV.
“Winning the SEABL Championship in Australia has been a very valuable experience and I learnt a lot from the players and coaches on how to close out games particularly on the defensive end.”
Lee began his professional career with the Northwest Tasmania Thunder, who also play in Australia’s Pro-League SEABL, where he made 22 appearances for the club, averaging a double-double of 19.4 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. He led Northwest Tasmania in field goals made (172) and attempted (316) for an impressive 54.4 field goal percentage.
Head Coach Andreas Kapoulas told bristolflyers.co.uk of his new recruit: “Ty comes from a championship season in Australia and brings with him experience, length, athleticism and a winning mentality. He is a versatile big that will add presence and depth on both ends of the court for our team and I think he will fit very well to our roster.”
“With Ty's addition our team roster is complete and now our full focus is on performing to the best of our ability. We have a number of difficult games coming up and we look forward to the challenges ahead.”
