Bristol Flyers Club Statement: Covid-19

Bristol Flyers’ opening two games of the 2020/21 season against Surrey Scorchers in the BBL Cup will no longer go ahead, following discussion and agreement with the British Basketball League.

The two games will be forfeited under the BBL’s COVID-19 secure play guidelines, as Bristol Flyers are unable to field a side due to four members of the programme testing positive for COVID-19 during the club’s routine testing of players and staff.

Although none of the cases were symptomatic, all players and staff will now strictly follow government guidelines as a result and enter a 14-day isolation process.

As part of this process, our SGS Basketball Academy first team will also enter a 14-day period of isolation.

Whilst we’re disappointed to not fulfil our opening fixtures, the safety of players and staff from both sides remains paramount in these unprecedented times, and we are fully cooperating with the BBL and Basketball England on the matter.
