Bristol Flyers - Around The Club 14/09/18

Here's your weekly preview of everything that's happening around the club, away from the Bristol Flyers first team this weekend.

Bristol Flyers II

Bristol Flyers II had a successful weekend of pre-season, beating Surrey Rams 84-68. Rams’ new point guard P. Rai led all scorers with 19 points, whilst Flyers veteran Curtly Ferguson finished with 18 points and led the second quarter run that built Bristol’s lead. Jordan Daniels added 13 points including eight points in a two minute spell in the third quarter. Captain Roy Owen played limited minutes due to injury but dropped in four points in his Flyers II debut.

Flyers II went on beat new national league side Bristol Hurricanes on Sunday 78-55. Returning player Nestor Saa led Flyers with 15 points off the bench, with Jordan Daniels adding 14 points with nine of those in the fourth quarter alone. New signing David Mann poured in 13 points including a last second three to punctuate the victory. Mann joins the team from Kentucky Enforcers in the USA and will be studying at UWE this year.

Flyers II are back in action this weekend on Sunday September 16th with a 2pm tip-off at the WISE campus. They face Huish Taunton Tigers in the first round of the National Cup competition, renewing their rivalry from last season. Entry is free so please come along and show your support.


Bristol Flyers Women

Flyers Women remain hard at work in preparation for the season to come in NBL Division One. Extra practices are cementing their pre-season work and they have a planned friendly away against Cardiff Archers on Saturday September 22nd.


Flyers Under-18s Premier

Flyers Under-18s will be hoping to mirror the BBL side’s 85-56 victory over Solent Kestrels last weekend.

The Under-18s premier team head south to take on Team Solent Kestrels in a pre-season friendly. They will be hoping to mirror the BBL side’s 85-56 victory over their senior counterparts last weekend.

Flyers Under-18s Conference

The Under-18s conference team have a few more weeks of practice in preparation for their season. They will play their first game away in Gloucester on Saturday October 6th.


Flyers Under-16s Boys

Basketball England held its Under-15s regional development tournament (RDT) at the National Basketball Performance Centre this past weekend. Flyers were well represented, with Finley Woodward, Louie Tucker, Joe Matthews and Pharrell Robinson competing for the South West boys team.

The Under-16s side will host fellow South West club Plymouth Raiders for a friendly at WISE on Sunday, September 16th at 11am.

Flyers Under-16s Girls

The girls programme was also well represented at the Under-15s RDT with Macie and Beth Cox along with Maisie Horrobin competing in the tournament for the South West team. 

The newly formed Under-16s girls team host a pre-season friendly event on Sunday September 16th from 12.30pm onwards at Hengrove Leisure Centre. 


Flyers Under-14s Boys I

The Under-14s premier team do not have a game this weekend, but will make their league debut the following week. They take on Lewisham Thunder at the SGS WISE Campus on Saturday, September 22nd at 11.30am.

Flyers Under-14s Boys II

The Under 14 Regional team begin their season by hosting a Central Venue League contest with Cougars and Jets on Sunday 30 September 2018.

Flyers Under-14s Girls

The Under-14s girls will also feature in the pre-season friendly event on Sunday, September 16th from 12.30pm onwards at Hengrove Leisure Centre. 


Flyers Under-12s Girls

The Under-12 and Under-10s girls will also compete against one another in the pre-season event on Sunday, September 16th at Hengrove Leisure Centre.
