Bristol Flyers - Around The Club 13/04/19

The play-off journey continues for many of our Bristol Flyers teams.

This week’s home highlight is the Women’s national league play-off semi-final at WISE on Sunday April 14th.

Flyers will host Reading Rockets for a 12noon tip-off. The winner will advance to the play-off final at the National Basketball Performance Centre at the end of the month.

Bristol Flyers II

Flyers II were eliminated from the play-offs on Sunday, losing to Team Derby Spartans 89-83 in the Division Three quarter finals. Flyers were led by player coach Roy Owen with 18 points.

Jordan Daniels added 13 points and a team high seven assists. The Spartans will face London BC Medelynas in the semi-finals. The other semi-final tie will see Essex Blades host Team Solent Kestrels in a rematch of the two sides’ final regular season game.

Bristol Flyers Women

Flyers Women completed a comfortable 78-52 quarter final win against the visiting Barking Abbey on Saturday. They will now host fifth seeded Reading Rockets at WISE this Sunday at 12noon. Flyers bested Rockets in two close games in the regular season. A 61-70 road victory in November saw Cristina Bigica score a game high 23 points. When the teams met at WISE in February Flyers won 67-61 and Bigica increased her total to 26 points. Reading will need to find a way to limit scoring from the Flyers’ forward if they are to improve their fortunes in this third meeting.

Flyers Under-16s Boys

Flyers U16 Boys claimed a 58-53 second round play-off win against the visiting Milton Keynes Trojans on Saturday. A strong second quarter for the Flyers saw them build up a 36-24 lead heading into half-time.

Dynamic drives from recent England Under-15 call-up Louie Tucker and Giuseppe Landolfi paved the way for the team. Trojans came out strong after half-time to cut the lead to 47-44 at the end of the third period. Flyers showed composure and held on to claim the victory and a place in the Under 16 Elite Eight.

Flyers U16 will now hit the road for a play-off quarter final game against Manchester Magic on Sunday April 14th. A victory in the quarter-finals would see them confirm a place in the NBL Junior Final Fours, which will also take place in Manchester at the National Basketball Performance Centre on Saturday 4th and Sunday, May 5th. Flyers will have to overcome tough opposition in a Magic team that went undefeated in the regular season to win the Premier North division with a 20-0 record.

Flyers Under-14s Boys II

The boys’ regional team are busy preparing for another Central Venue League event with Cougars and Penryn Saracens on Saturday April 27th.

Flyers Junior Girls

The Flyers Junior Girls are staying active over the summer period with another friendly against Exeter Spartans planned for May 19th.

Community sessions for junior boys and girls are also available across Bristol - check out the community section of the website for more information.
