Keep up to date with all the goings on around the club away from the Bristol Flyers first team this weekend.

Bristol Flyers II

Bristol Flyers II are back to work after a successful trials period at the end of August. The team are gearing up for the season ahead in Division Three South, having won promotion last year.

The squad are in pre-season action this weekend against Surrey Rams for a 2pm tip-off on Saturday, September 8th. The teams met twice last season with Flyers coming away victorious on both occasions.

Come along to see Roy Owen and the rest of the team in action at the SGS College Arena and keep an eye out for some more exciting new players joining the team this year.

On Sunday, Flyers II head across town for a 5.30pm tip-off against new national league side Bristol Hurricanes at Hengrove Leisure Centre.

Bristol Flyers Women

After recently being named the Children’s Coach of the Year at the Basketball England Volunteer Awards, Maialen Zilbeti will be back in action with the Flyers women this season as they compete in Division One. Zilbeti will also remain a key part of the thriving girls program within the club, after recently joining the Bristol Sport Foundation’s community coaching team.

Flyers Under-18s Premier

The Under-18s will once again compete in top tier competition in 2018/19. With many of the team from last year progressing on to senior basketball, it will be a new-look squad this season, primarily comprised of players who competed in the Under-18 Conference last year. Head coach Darren Oakey will remain with the cohort as they move up into the tougher conference and is looking forward to the new challenge.

Flyers Under-18s Conference

Junior programme lead and academy head coach Chris Bourne will take the reigns for the Under-18s Conference team this season. A new group with fresh faces from the academy programme will compete in the South West Conference and look to develop together as a team while challenging themselves to repeat the play-off finish last season.

Flyers Under-16s Boys

Head Coach Ieuan Alex Jones remains with the Under-16 Boys team for the 2018/19 season. Alex Jones joined the team mid-season last year and also coaches within the SGS academy programme. He was impressed with the group and has succeeded in winning promotion into the more challenging Central Premiere division for the upcoming season. With many players returning for a second year in this age group, there is a lot of excitement about the season to come.

Flyers Under-16s Girls

The women and girls arm of the club have added a second national league side this year to go alongside the successful senior team. The Under-16s Girls will complete in the South West division and have had a busy summer.

Flyers Under-14s Boys I

The Under-14s boys team return under the dynamic leadership of coach Christian Hill. Like the Under-16s, they are also stepping up to the premier division after a strong showing in conference play last year. Coach Hill will be joined on the sidelines by Coach Vince Marriott, who brings a wealth of experience to the role.

Flyers Under-14s Boys II

Long standing junior coach Rodney Gear has joined the Bristol Sport Foundation’s community coaching team and will return to oversee the Under-14s Boys second team this year. He is joined by assistant coach Ben Williams, who brings a wealth of playing experience from across the South West. The team will compete in Central Venue League competition throughout the year.

Flyers Under-14s Girls

The girls program also features an Under-14s team this season. They begin pre-season training this week and are planning friendlies in the near future in preparation for Central Venue League competition.
