Bristol Flyers and South Gloucestershire and Stroud College (SGS) have agreed new partnership, which will see the club play their home games at the WISE Arena until the end of the 2019/20 season.
The Bristol Academy of Sport is an integral part of SGS College and the Flyers’ player pathway, and has only ever received the top rating of “outstanding” by Ofsted since its inception more than a decade ago.
The partnership will see the Flyers play and train at SGS College’s WISE campus, with the SGS College logo also featuring on the shoulder of the Flyers’ home and away uniforms.
Simon Panes, Director of Sports Academies said: "Basketball is a priority sport at the college and our Under-18s programme has been a successful feeder into the Flyers since they were formed.
“The facilities at SGS and the academic pathways all contribute to the offer we make to aspiring basketball players with hopes of playing in the BBL, so we look forward to continuing to contribute to the success of the franchise at SGS over the foreseeable future."
SGS College’s WISE Campus has incredible facilities for elite level athletes, including a state of the art gym, a deluxe film review room, ice baths and a fully equipped physiotherapists suite.
Former students from the basketball academy have long enjoyed being recruited into further education in the USA, and pursuing professional playing careers with the Flyers.
Bristol Flyers’ Commercial and Operations Officer, Steve Devereux said: “Bristol Flyers has made the SGS WISE Arena it’s home since the club’s formation and our home gamedays are recognised as one of the best atmospheres in the league.
"The venue hosts the entire club including junior, development and women’s programmes, in addition to the SGS College basketball academy. One of the leading sports campuses in the country, SGS College offers Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ ranked courses combining sport and education."
