Alex Koukouravas Signs Scholarship With Victory Rock Prep

Bristol Flyers Academy product and SGS College student Alex Koukouravas has signed an athletic scholarship with Victory Rock Prep for the 2016/17 season.

The 18-year-old joins the Florida-based preparatory school, which is led by Coach Loren B. Jackson, who has more than 20 years of experience coaching over 150 NCAA Division One athletes.

“I’m very excited to be joining Victory Rock Prep this season,” Koukouravas told bristolflyers.co.uk.

“I had a number of different options available back home for next year but decided that going out to the States was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I couldn’t turn down.

“My ultimate goal is to play NCAA college basketball and I think the experience of having a year in the States at a prep school will really help make that dream possible.”

Koukouravas, who is also captain of the Welsh Under-18s national team flew out to the States earlier this month to link up with his new team-mates ahead of the upcoming season.

He becomes the third student from SGS College’s basketball academy to sign an athletic scholarship overseas for the upcoming season.

“Playing at SGS and on an international level with Wales has been a really valuable experience,” said Koukouravas.

“I feel confident the knowledge I have gained here in Bristol will be valuable for me moving forward.”

Head coach Andreas Kapoulas said: “The SGS basketball academy has offered Alex the opportunity to develop his game to the next level and he’s really made the most of it.

“We believe he is ready for the next step in his basketball career and we will be following his continued development closely with Victory Rock Prep and beyond.”
