Adam Weary spoke to Bristol Flyers TV for the first time since arriving in the UK earlier this week.
The 22-year-old joined the club in May as Coach Kapoulas' first new summer recruit from High Point University.
Weary made 116 appearances for the Panthers over his four-year college career, averaging 10.8 points per game on 33% shooting from behind the three point line, helping the team to four straight Big South regular season championships.
"I signed with the Flyers a week after I signed with my agent," Weary told bristolflyers.co.uk
"My agent was telling me that a lot of rookies don't sign their contracts until late in the summer, but for me to be able to sign in back in May really took a load off, knowing that I had somewhere to play this season."
Weary arrived in the UK on Sunday and is set to make his Bristol Flyers debut against USA Select on Thursday, September 7th.
"Everybody in Bristol seems really nice," he added.
"It's my first time out of the country so I naturally had some assumptions of what it would be like. It's definitely not what I expected.
"Coach wants us to be the best defensive team in the league this season - my main focus is just doing whatever we need to do to win games.
"I'm just trying to stay in the moment right now and go through the process. These first few practices are going to be crucial in terms of us going forward, so I'm just taking it one day at a time."
Tickets for Bristol Flyers' pre-season games against USA Select and Worcester Wolves at the WISE Arena remain on general sale.
