Our Health Squad programme is an in-curriculum time primary school programme that helps to teach children about making healthy lifestyle choices using the sport of basketball as an engagement tool to enthuse and inspire children towards a healthy and happy life.
We are delighted to announce that we been awarded funding from Heart Research UK and SUBWAY, specifically to help develop the 'Bristol Flyers' Health Squad' programme. This programme aims to empower youngsters with the knowledge to be able to make positive lifestyle decisions as they progress through life. Through teaching about issues such as emotional well-being, how to keep the heart healthy and sugar to name but a few, combined with practical basketball sessions, we endeavour to put the pupils and their families on the right path to happy and active lifestyles.
The programme is delivered over one term and consists of a one-hour session - mapped into the National Curriculum in science, citizenship and mathematics - followed by a practical basketball session.
Classroom lessons are interactive and examine the importance of a healthy heart, diet and nutrition, the dangers of sugar, drugs and alcohol and emotional health and well-being.
