Report: Flyers U14s II Host Triangular Tournament

Bristol Flyers U14s II hosted a triangular tournament with Vale Vipers and Plymouth Raiders at the SGS WISE Arena this weekend.

The Flyers went into their opening game of the tournament against Vipers determined to put in a strong performance, following defeat to the same opponents earlier in the season.

Flyers’ starting five contained Alex Carey, Alex Millman, Ewan Strover, Louie West and Finley Woodward. Flyers came out of the gate strong but a lack of ball movement and rebounding meant they were 6-3 behind after the first quarter.

Bristol managed to play more consistently in the second quarter keeping the scoring close. The second half of the game started badly for Flyers with low energy and struggling to box out. Vipers capitalised on this, taking a large number of the rebounds.

Flyers were unable to close the gap and the game finished 29-41. All in all a much better result than the first game against Vale, indicating a vast improvement over the season so far but still some room for improvement.

The top scorers were Woodward with ten, and Carey with five, with Nathan Symonds, Millman and Ewan Strover adding four apiece.

The second game was against the Plymouth Raiders, who, despite having a short recovery time after their own game against the Vipers, came out strong against the Flyers.

Flyers lacked urgency allowing easy steals and showing some weakness in defence. The first quarter ending 13-7 to Plymouth.

Flyers stepped up their efforts in the second quarter bringing it to a four-point game.

The half ended with the Flyers behind 29-23. Coming out of the break with a six-point deficit Flyers were still in with a chance, however the team were not strong enough boxing out and Raiders took the majority of the rebounds.

Flyers pressed hard to close the gap but were missing layups. The game ended 38-46 to Plymouth.

The top scorers were Carey and Symonds with ten each and Woodward with eight.
